Why 12 inches is the line
Under 12 inches a lamp reads as an object on the nightstand rather than a fixture beside the bed. It clears the space around it, it does not block the view across the room, and on a shallow nightstand it leaves room for everything else.

Footprint decides this, not height
A crowded nightstand runs out of surface long before it runs out of headroom. Measured across the widest point: the Vessel is 12 cm, the Noir dome 13 cm, the Pebble Stack 14 cm, the Stone 17 cm, and the Dolce, Petal Dome and Retro Glass Mushroom all 20 cm.

Three of these need no cable at all
The Noir Cordless Dome, the Stone Cordless Marble and the Vessel Cordless Ceramic all recharge over USB and run off an internal battery. On a small nightstand the cable is often the real problem rather than the lamp.
All three also dim steplessly by touch, so the same lamp covers reading light and a low night light. The Noir switches between 3000K, 4500K and 6500K; the Stone and Vessel run from 2700K warm white to 6000K.

A small lamp lights the nightstand and the space immediately around it. That is ambient light and light to find your glass of water by, not light to read a paperback under for an hour.

Common questions
How tall should a nightstand lamp be?
Short enough that the bottom of the shade sits at or just below your eye level when you are sitting up in bed. Measure from the top of the nightstand to your eye and pick a lamp a little shorter. On a nightstand level with the mattress that means 26 to 30 inches; on a taller nightstand, which most are, 9 to 15 inches is right.
What is the smallest lamp you sell?
Two are tied at 8.7 inches: the Dolce Mushroom and the Vessel Cordless Ceramic. The Noir Cordless Dome is 9.6 inches but has the narrowest body at 13 cm across and weighs only 430 grams.
Will a small lamp be bright enough to read by?

Which of these work without a cable?

Do these work in a dorm room?
The cordless and USB ones particularly well, because a dorm desk or nightstand rarely has a socket where you want one. Every mains lamp here has a US plug and runs on 110 to 120 V.

The manufacturer's own dimension drawings, supplied in September 2026 and converted to inches. We do not estimate a height, so a lamp whose height is not confirmed does not appear on this page.

You pay the postage to send the original back, we ship the replacement free, and there is never a restocking fee. The replacement goes out once your return reaches us and then takes another 9 to 13 business days.

Qualux Decor is a Dutch company. Our lamps are made by our manufacturing partners in China and shipped directly from China to your door; we hold no stock of our own. Delivery takes 9 to 13 business days in total. The price at checkout is the full price, with no customs charges on arrival, and returns are handled inside the United States at our returns address in Carson, California.
